— Mr. Leon Hancock Phillips Sr., 86, of Corsicana passed away in his sleep on Friday, May 31, 2013 at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village in Corsicana. Recently diagnosed with cancer, our Lord blessed him with a peaceful homecoming.

He was born on April 12, 1927, in Corsicana to Rebecca Leo and Clarence Ervin Phillips.

Leon was a charter member and deacon of Community Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy, being stationed in San Diego, Calif. After returning from the Navy, Leon attended Navarro College, becoming a member of the Barracks Bunch. He was a longtime employee of Southwestern Bell, and proud member of the Pioneers Club. After retiring, Leon and partner Louis Kormos ran K & P Telephone touring the town providing companionship along with a little phone repair and installation. For several years, Leon and Dell traveled many states helping Phil with Phillips Auto Transport delivering Lexus vehicles. He enjoyed ranching, known over the years for raising cattle and fat horses. He enjoyed driving his team with the covered wagon, for years the beautiful mules, more recently the paints.   

He was preceded in death by wife of 58 years, Eula Dell Phillips; parents; and brothers, Robert and Maynard Phillips.

Survivors include his son, Phil Phillips and wife Jan of Corsicana; grandchildren, Ashley and husband Josh, and Taya Bardwell of Athens; Matt Phillips of Corsicana; and his precious great grandbaby, Kensley; brothers, Ervin and wife Sheral Phillips, and Wayne Phillips, all of Corsicana; and several nieces and nephews.

Per his wishes, Leon will be cremated, then ashes interred next to his beloved Dell in Rose Hill Cemetery.  

Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Community Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Easterling officiating.
