Robert Gene ‘Bobby’ Fluker

Robert Gene (“Bobby”) Fluker, 75, of Corsicana died early Thursday morning, April 25, 2013 at Medical City Hospital in Dallas, after a long illness.

He was born May 1, 1937 in Corsicana to Leland Clay and Josie Mae Fluker, and to older brothers Clay Jr. and Alton.

He married Lorna Territo in 1961 and had three daughters: Myrla, Suzanne, and Gena. After Lorna passed away, Bobby married Billie Giles of Corsicana in 2007.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland Clay Fluker and Josie Mae Bowden Fluker; brothers Clay Fluker, Jr. and Alton Bowden Fluker, and wife Lorna Fluker.

Bobby is leaving behind his wife, Billie, of Corsicana; children Myrla and Eddie Pate of Barstow, Calif.; Suzanne Fluker of Tyler; and Gena and Brett Caluya of West Sacramento, Calif.; grandchildren: Eddie and Keri Pate of San Diego, Calif.; Benjamin and Diana Pate of Tucson, Ariz.; Samuel and Holly Pate of Monterey, Calif.; Jon Pate of Barstow; Brandon Williams, Justin Williams, and Lindsey and Gabriel Hall, all of Sacramento; and three great-grandchildren ranging from 18 months to 12 days old: Addison Jordan Pate of San Diego; D’Angelo Raymond Hall of Sacramento; and Annabelle Deborah Pate of Tucson.

Bobby was a man of many interests, and his contributions to our community are many and varied. He was responsible for establishing the “Peace Officer’s Museum” in Pioneer Village; he founded the Lefty Frizzell Museum in Jester Park; and he rallied to have an oil derrick erected as a monument over the site of the first oil well in Navarro County. He has been active throughout the years with the Navarro County Historical Society, serving two different terms as president. In 2009, he was inducted into the Pioneer Village Hall of Fame. For three years he co-hosted a special radio program (“Country Classics”) on KAND which focused on the music of those country music artists who had been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. He founded the “Corsicana Fast Draw Club,” and for 45 years performed in the annual Christmas parade.

He became heavily involved in emcee-ing and performing, and played with different bands at different venues, such as the Corsicana Opry Band, Big “C” Jamboree, the Freestone Jamboree, and the Senior band which performs at the Senior Activity Center. In May 2010 he was honored with a plaque from the Big C Jamboree for dedicating over 40 years of his life to country music and its history. He would put on special programs at places such as the Kinsloe House, schools, and different churches in the area, as well as his own church, Northside Baptist, where he and Billie were active members.

He was a great man in the community, but was especially beloved by his family and friends. He was a loving husband, both to Lorna who he took care of extensively during the years before her death; and to Billie. Both Billie and Bobby felt that God brought them together after each of them had lost long-time spouses. They made the most of every day and enjoyed traveling together, both locally, as well as across many states. He was a great father and grandfather. His grandchildren have fond memories of visiting “PaPa:” getting to drink “coffee” with him and his buddies in the morning; learning how to handle guns and going shooting; and the musical “jam sessions” they would have together – whether they were picking guitars along with him or singing as he played.

Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Corley Funeral Home.

The funeral service will follow the next day at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, April 28, 2013, also at Corley Funeral Home. Dr. Rick Lamb, pastor of Northside Baptist Church will be officiating, assisted by Dr. Eddie Pate, son-in-law of Mr. Fluker. Music will be provided by Jimmie Young. The burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Franklin Neal, Les Cotton, Preston Bonner, Bob Cooksey, Eddie W. Pate, and Jonathan Pate. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jody Thomas, Fred Hayes, Beauford Dunlap, Robert Keathley, and David Frizzell.

Fluker will be missed as an entertainer, musician and historian. But for those who knew him best, it will be his kindness, his loyalty and integrity, his contagious hearty laugh, and giving spirit that will be missed the most.

An online guestbook is available at by selecting the Robert Gene Fluker obituary.
