Vicki Lynn Selby

Vicki Lynn (Jones) Selby, 59, will be missed by all that knew her. A long term resident of Corsicana, she lost her brief battle against cancer on June 21, 2014, in Plano, while surrounded by family and friends.

Born June 30, 1954 in Flint, Michigan, to Minnie Louise Blackford and Jonathan Norton Jones. Vicki grew up in Northeast Arkansas with her four sisters.

Vicki sought love in every aspect of life and was married twice. With William Kersey, she had one son. After marrying her second husband, Jack Selby, in 1988, she brought her son to Texas and made her home in the Dallas Metroplex. She later found an opportunity to make an impact in the community and brought her husband Jack to Corsicana. Believing education was important and that it was the only thing that could not be taken from a person, Vicki had a long career as a student, accomplishing two master’s and two bachelor’s degrees. Helping others was a way of life for Vicki. She helped families find support for those most dear to them by providing food, clothing, comfort, and opportunities for growth through her many roles in social work and health care. She discovered she was able to use her unique set of skills combined with her passion for others by administering health care facilities and directing the business that provided such services.

Vicki’s greatest passions were her family, including her son, Joshua Kersey, and her husband, Jack Selby. She opened her heart to her daughter-in-law, Kristina Kersey. She also loved her home. She adorned it and expanded it to make it the place she wanted. A capable gardener, she planted many flowers to bring life and vibrancy to her yard. A vibrant person herself, Vicki had made many friends she welcomed to her home. She also filled it with many cats that she loved and they kept her company after husband, Jack Selby, passed in 2011. She loved traveling, having recently visited Ireland and Spain. Vicki had a full life of joy and happiness that she was grateful to share with those around her.

Vicki is survived by her son, Joshua Kersey and his wife Kristina Wall Kersey of Dallas. Through Jack Selby, she had six stepchildren, Scott Selby, Laura Selby, Jacklyn Selby, Gary Norris, Wendell Norris, and Rhonda Norris. Vicki is also survived by her four sisters, Marjorie Lingenfelter and her husband Sonny; Barbara McGuire and her husband Aaron; Patti Golden and her husband Milburn; and Shirley Jones and her husband Greg. Vicki loved being considered the “favorite aunt” and leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Among them are Mitchell, Missty, Shaunna, Randy, Lisa, and Rachel. She leaves behind her close friends Leann Jackson, Laurie Marx, Sean Hughes, and Denise Ryno. She also survived by many cats she loved dearly. Vicki now joins her husband Jack and her niece Melissa.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Corley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.

Memorials may be made in Vicki’s honor to the American Cancer Society, the American Humane Society, and Operation Kindness.
