Sue Bailey, 86, of Corsicana passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Twilight Nursing Home surrounded by her family. Sue was born Nov. 29, 1927 in Greenville to Claud and Bonnie (Merrell) Bailey.

She grew up in Corsicana and graduated from Mildred High School. She was a graduate of the East Texas State Teachers College at Commerce, and later taught at Union Grove High School in East Texas, as well as other schools in Laredo and Lampasas. During summers she worked at the Miller Hat Factory in Corsicana, as well as at Southwestern Bell Telephone.

In 1955 she followed the calling of her Lord into His ministry, selling all her possessions and joining June Douglass, her first coworker. She labored in the ministry in Texas and New Mexico until 1962, at which time she was sent to the Philippines and Pacific islands. She returned to Texas in 1983, and finished her active ministry in 2007. Peggy (sister) and Sammy Joe Thomas cared lovingly for her in their home until she needed additional nursing care.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Glynn Bailey.

She is survived by two sisters: Connie Mullenix of Corsicana, and Peggy Thomas and husband Sammy, of Eureka; sister-in-law, Sue Steele, and four nephews, Garland Bailey and wife Lisa of Corsicana; Jody Thomas and wife Sharon of Eureka; Mark Thomas and wife Jeanne of Eureka; and Bailey White of Galveston; three nieces, Sherrill Bailey of Corsicana, Claudia Thomas of Lewisville, and Carolon Moore and husband Shawn of Temple. She is also survived by four great nephews, eight great nieces and 25 great-great nephews and nieces.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Corley Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014, at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Lyle Schober, LaRon Branson, and Joyce Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Beeman, Dickie Beeman, James Raymond Coker, Vincent Occhipinti, Byron Potter, and Steve Weaver.
