Martin Allyn DeRusha Sr.

Martin Allyn DeRusha Sr., was born May 17, 1943 in Emhouse, and passed away peacefully at age 70 on Wednesday morning, April 30, 2014 in Fort Worth. His parents were Lois Ann Easterling Anderson, and father, Keely Selmer Anderson. Martin graduated in 1961 from Blooming Grove High School, and had a 32-year career at General Motors, retiring in 1993.

Martin loved children and animals and had a wonderful way with both. He was known for his selflessness and his humor. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend. He taught his children, nieces and nephews how to drive. Martin taught his children how to love unconditionally, in all circumstances, as well as strength. Martin was the magnet in the neighborhood for his kids’ friends, and he was always there for someone in need. He will be greatly missed, but will remain in all of our hearts. His legacy will carry on with us all.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his eldest daughter Aleta René DeRusha McMahon; and his sisters, Mary Jo Willis and Selma Ann Baggett.

Martin is survived by his children, Dr. Martin Allyn DeRusha Jr., Allyn Wade DeRusha, Mindy Lanan DeRusha Campbell, Lisa Diane DeRusha, and step-daughter Sheila Rene Rodgers; and grandchildren, Joshua Martin Riley, Cheyenne Nicholes, Brendon McMahon, Justin Campbell, Keely McMahon, Jessica Campbell, Ryan Amason, Madison DeRusha and Michael DeRusha; and by his sister, Georgia Christine Holcomb. He is also survived by the mothers of his children, Oleta DeRusha and Cynthia Jane Amason, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Martin’s life will be remembered at a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Lone Star Cowboy Church of Navarro County, 4495 W. Hwy. 22, Corsicana with Bro. Gary Johnson of Calvary Worship Center officiating.

His request was that his body be cremated and his ashes buried at Pattison Cemetery in Emhouse.

Floral tributes will be received at the church on Saturday morning.

Martin’s request was that any donations made in his honor be made to the American Heart Association in honor of Aleta René DeRusha McMahon.
