Dirk Neal Messer, 56 of Groesbeck, passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, after a long battle with lung disease.
He was born March 13, 1956, in Corsicana to Richard and Betty Messer. He worked in oil and gas as a foreman over wells. He loved riding horses and enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing his guitar.
He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Messer; step-father, Bill Prince; and uncle, Earl Carver.
Survivors include his mother, LaRue Messer Prince of Mexia; children, Lisa Messer and Brittney Messer Wilson, both of El Dorado, Ark. He is also survived by his long-time companion, Joy Knotts; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Messer, Matthew Messer, Tyler Wilson, and Micah Wilson; his sisters, Nada Messer Barlow of Corsicana, Johnna Messer Donohoe and husband Danny of Calion, Ark., and DeLana Messer of Corsicana; brother, Rick Lynn Messer and wife, Robin of El Dorado, Ark.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 11a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home chapel with brother-in-law Danny Donahoe officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Messer, Justin Messer, Rodney Carver, Warren Carver, Mike Carver, and Donnie Carver.
Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Messer, Quinton Carver, Richard Kelley, and Jeff Kelley.
