Don Smith, 59, of Mesquite, died at 4:40 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at the Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake in Dallas. He was born Aug. 28, 1953, in Boulder, Colo., to Louie and Velda Smith.
Don is survived by immediate family members, sister Karen Ferguson (Jimmy) and her son Ron Hudson (Karen) of Dallas and brother Bruce Farrow-Smith (Leroyce) of Wimberley.
Don’s father Louie Smith and his mother Velda Smith preceded him in death.
Don was a resident of Mesquite where he lived since returning to Texas after poor health required leaving Honolulu, Hawaii. He graduated from Corsicana High School in 1971 and worked in the airline industry for three decades.
He loved the Dallas Cowboys, traveling, rock and roll music, and time with family and friends. He enjoyed fast cars, playing sports, and traveling. His work with airlines allowed Don to see the world — by last count he had visited 55 countries — his favorite trip was to Paris, France, a city he’d visited two dozen times.
A Memorial Service will be held at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, Texas at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013. Don’s remains will be cremated and his ashes returned to the Pacific waters off the coast of his beloved Hawaii.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any such generosity find form in donations to a charity that promotes care and dignity for those among us that struggle with mental deficiencies.
