Barbara C. Ralston, 95, of Corsicana, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013. Barbara was born in Lawrence, Kan., Aug. 27, 1918, to Lee Cox and Ruby Hightower Cox. She attended public schools in Crane, Alpine, and Eastland, Texas, and graduated from Longview High School, where she was elected most beautiful her senior year. After graduating from Texas State College for Women (Texas Woman's University), she taught business courses and coached girls basketball at Emhouse High School. During the 1960s, '70s, and '80s, she taught at Blooming Grove High School, where she was also the year book staff advisor. In 1982, Barbara was awarded the Outstanding Ex-Teacher Award by the Blooming Grove Ex -Student Association. She always enjoyed seeing and visiting with former students and looked forward to the Emhouse school reunions.
On June 3, 1941, Barbara married David Ralston. They made their home and reared their family in Corsicana, where they were active in school, civic and social organizations. David predeceased Barbara on Dec. 5, 2005.
Barbara was an active member and an elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church, participating in virtually every congregational activity, except the choir. She most often made deviled-eggs for church dinners. In May 2010, Barbara was honored with the Honorary Life Membership by the Presbyterian Women of Westminster.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers, Lee Cox and Leonard Cox, and her sisters, Frances Cox and Dorthea Powers.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Dowd of Minneapolis; son, Dave Ralston, Jr. and wife, Donna, of Corsicana; daughter, Shirley Greer of Houston; and son, Paul Ralston and wife, Kim, of Canyon Lake, Texas; and by seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Corley Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life and Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 312 N. 13th Street, Corsicana with Rev. Jon Conley officiating, and interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jim Wood, John Jackson, Ron Williams, Bill Maupin, Joe McClure, Glenn Smith, and Joe Brooks.
