Isaac A. Beam, 93, of Barry passed away at Twilight Nursing Home surrounded by loving friends and family on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013. He was born on July 23, 1920 in Mason County, Texas to Isaac Melvin (Met) Beam and Emma (Chisamore) Beam.
Ike was a World War II Veteran, serving in the Navy (Seabees Construction Battalion) in the Philippines and New Guinea. Ike married the love of his life, Bobbie Jean (Varnell) Beam, a union that lasted 60 years. After building many of the interstate highways on which we now drive, Ike retired from T L James as a construction superintendent and came to live in Navarro County near Barry. He was a farmer/ rancher and managed Barry Grain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bobbie, daughter Shirley Moreau, brothers Gorman, Reall, Melvin, Chester, Wallis Beam; and sisters Thelma Van Leiu and Mable Kilgore.
Survivors include his son Otis Beam and wife Deni, grandchildren Danielle Neagle (Mark), Rachel Seaton (Jimmy), Brad Beam, Matthew Beam (Lacy), and Chris Taliaferro (Cheryl) and great-grandchildren Emily, Michael, Chloe, Jaci, Madison, and Sam and great-great-grandchild Shelbie; brother Bill Beam; and sisters Nettie Short and Etta Faye Caylor.
Pallbearers will be Jesse McCoy, Winston Beam, Brad Beam, Matthew Beam, Larry Beam, and Don Jackson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013 at Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013 also at Corley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Barry Masonic Lodge or Barry Methodist Church.
