Billy Don Collins, age 79, of Streetman, passed away on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013 at the East Texas Medical Center in Fairfield. He was born July 20, 1934 in Corsicana to Nellie (Dixon) and Charles William Collins of Corsicana.
He lived in Corsicana until he was 19 years old. Don worked for Gulf-Chevron in Houston as a Superintendent of Data Management and retired to Corsicana in 1992.
Mr. Collins contributed to his community as a Chief of the Southern Oakes Volunteer Fire Department of Streetman. He shared his Christian faith through the Navarro Emmaus Community, Kairos Prison Ministry. He was a certified lay speaker and served the Lord faithfully at Lakeside United Methodist Church at St. Elmo, and the Methodist Protestant Church at Emhouse.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother William Clayton Collins.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Francis (Ward) Collins; three daughters, Joleen Wright and husband, Mark, Charlotte Royall and husband, Ralph, Darleen Arisco and husband, Mike, all of Houston; son Billy Don Collins, Jr., and fiance’ Jan of Streetman; four granddaughters, Trena McCandless and Bob of Carlsbad, N.M., Jennifer Figg and Chris of Houston, Amber Royall, Margaret Williams and husband, Doug of Houston; and eight great-grandchildren, John McCandless, Seth McCandless, Sarah McCandless, Mark McCandless, Sophie Figg, Jacob Carmona , Micheal Carmona and Jackson Williams.
Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013 at Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 at Lakeside Baptist Church in St. Elmo with Dr. Thomas Q. Robbins officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 at Pattison Cemetery in Emhouse. Pall bearers will be the members of the Southern Oaks Volunteer Fire Department.
