Interesting people, places
July edition of ‘exp’ offers unique insight into our county
By Deanna Brown
So, how many of you watched that Rangers game where the overly zealous fan fell out of the stands and landed on the ball girl?
It just so happens that very cute ball girl is a Navarro County native, who originally hails from Emhouse. Hopefully, you will soon have your copy of the July exp where her pretty face graces our cover, and can read all about how she got this fun summer job, and what else she’s doing.
Another pretty girl featured this month in exp is Lindsey Stevens, a soon-to-be senior at Corsicana High School. Lindsey’s interests are many and varied, and she excels at each and every one!
I have known this girl since she was born, and I remember her being absolutely infatuated with all things canine when she was about 3. Seems like every time I saw her, she was reading a book about dogs, or drawing pictures of dogs. Since then, she’s developed a love of aviation, too.
Her love and interest of fine arts seems to have grown and developed right along with her passion for aviation. Read more details about Lindsey in the pages of the July exp.
A good kid from Frost recently won state recognition in UIL competition in the area of literary criticism. Dan Lunsford reveals what makes Drew Reynolds a “good kid” from Frost. Elsewhere in the county, our own Loyd Cook explored a business in Powell that involves pecans and Bancrofts — but the name of the business is Green Tree Pecan Company. Cook gets up close and personal with Dennis and John Bancroft, and what’s going on at Green Tree.
Inspiration comes in several forms in exp this month, beginning with a program at Navarro College that seeks to help women with drive succeed. Kathy Pillans and Linda Blatchley are both living examples of the success one can achieve through the Business Information Technology program at Navarro College. Many working moms have utilized the flexibility of the program’s lab hours to juggle family, job and returning to school, in order to improve life for their families. Read more about this program and the inspiring women in July exp.
The folks who reside at the Navarro County Association of Disabled Citizens ranch are inspiring, as well. I love to go out there and visit those folks — because no where else will you feel more loved and accepted, with absolutely no judgment!
These fine people live together, work together, and play together. The NCADC has been around for many, many years — but is a rare bird, in that it is also considered a facility which receives no government funding. The desire is to be self-sufficient, and provide for their own needs. However, the workshop, which employs many people who do not reside at the ranch, could use more jobs from the public. There are many things they can do, and they truly want to work. Please read more about this in the July exp.
Margaret Louise Capehart is a truly inspiring woman. She has an unwavering faith in God, and has served him alongside her husband Jimmie all her life. Even when a horrific car accident nearly took her life, she never lost her faith. When Jimmie passed away, Margaret took over the pastorate of his church, at the request of the church body. In spite of many obstacles, most of which are physical, at the age of 79 years young she is still leading the congregation, playing the organ, going to “boot camp,” and many other things. Her story will give you pause, and possibly make you view your own obstacles in a different light.
As always, thank you for reading exp — and we thank our contributing writers, as well. We welcome input and feedback — and story suggestions!
