Does it seem like everywhere you turn, people you love, care about, or just know slightly are being hammered?
Like an inordinately high number of people are receiving bad news, such as scary reports on their health, devastating news about a child, or marriages falling apart? And I’m talking long-term, Christian marriages ... not people who just met and ran off to Vegas.
Personally, I have a couple of friends who are relatively new Christians. Satan is wailing on them in specific areas of their lives like you wouldn’t believe ... unless you’re a (fairly) mature Christian who understands how Satan works.
I run a great risk to my own (and my loved ones’) safety by writing these words. Satan will open up his artillery on me and those I love, so please say a prayer for us.
This is just what I’ve felt God laying on my heart to share with you.
Years ago, I picked up a book by Frank Peretti called “This Present Darkness.” It is a work of fiction, but Peretti has spun the story of the fictional town of Ashton in an attempt to give a mental picture through words of what the constantly raging battles in the spirit world look like.
I devoured that book in record time (back in the 90’s) and its follow-up, “Piercing the Darkness.” Then, eager to share this new (to me) insight about the battles between the forces of good and evil, I loaned each book to a different friend ... never to be seen again.
Flash forward to 2012, and I saw the books mentioned on Facebook. Mentioned them to a friend who works in Dallas, and voila! Two days later had the books in hand.
I’ve re-read the first and working on the second. If you can’t really picture in your mind how the battle is for our souls, please pick these up. Get one from Amazon.
Some things were happening recently and in the same one-hour span, two different friends sent us the same verse: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
I took that as a definite sign to hold on, Satan was on the warpath.
Here’s the thing: If you’re a new Christian, trying to live for Christ, you’re at risk. Evil is going to come after you. If you’re a more mature Christian, trying your best to find the path God has for your life, the forces of darkness are gonna seek you out.
Anything Satan can do to keep the kingdom of God from prospering, he’s gonna try it. But Isaiah 54:17 says, in part, “No weapon formed against you shall prosper.”
Okay, I’m not the most mature Christian there is out here. Far, far from it. But even I know our best protection from evil is to put on the full armor of God. What does that mean?
I think it means to clothe or bathe yourself in scripture. Read it, learn it, memorize it, so in times of attack, it will automatically come out and be your protection.
Look, I’m not trying to replace your preacher. I know nothing. But in my life, I’ve had suffering, which has produced empathy and compassion for my fellow man (and woman). When I hear my friends say they’re hurting, they’re broken, my heart hurts for them.
Please, people — be in prayer for your family. Your friends. Your neighbors. This city, and our nation.
One thing I DO know — Jesus is our only hope.
