Healthy Woman’s monthly event, “Delving Deep into Heart Health,” will be held at the Navarro Regional Hospital dining room. From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., there will be free blood sugar screening and the program will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The speaker will be Shelley Hall, cardiologist with HeartPlace and director of Heart Transplant Services. She will discuss the risk, treatment and prevention of heart failure. She specializes in the care and treatment of congestive heart failure patients. Hall sees patients at Navarro Regional Hospital and also works closely with the active transplant center at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Bunert Park Committee and Flag Committee will sponsor a fund-raising luncheon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the City of Corsicana Collin Street Annex, 320 W. Collin St. (behind the Corsicana Public Library). The home-style menu will be chicken, ham, baked beans, potato salad, cabbage, cake, bread, and tea. Cost will be $7 for dine-in or take-out lunches. A public meeting will be held at 2 p.m. on the Navarro County Courthouse front lawn as the José Antonio Navarro Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, places a wreath on Navarro’s statue in remembrance of his birthday. Eddie Pevehouse will present information regarding the history of Navarro’s portrait along with reading a fourth grader’s history essay contest entry on Navarro. Everyone is invited to attend.
The public is invited to view the Navarro College Science Fair from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Gibson Hall on the college campus. Community high schools have been invited to participate. Winners will be announced at 1 p.m. Categories being judged will be in the life sciences and physical sciences. The top two entries in each of these categories can receive a scholarship to Navarro College or enroll in prepaid, dual credit courses with Navarro College. Navarro County Animals at Risk Foundation will conduct a low-cost equine vaccination clinic from 8 a.m. to noon at Rogers Animal Hospital, 1246 N. Business 45. A benefit will be held from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the VFW, 4609 W. State Highway 31, for Allen Fleenor of Mildred, who is a Vietnam War veteran who was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Corsicana Preservation Foundation will have its second annual fund-raiser Twilight Ball from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at Halbert House.
