Feb. 28
The third annual Health Fair and Business Expo, sponsored by the Navarro County NAACP, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, 1114 E. Sixth Ave.
Southern Oaks Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual chili supper and cake auction from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost will be $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12.
Pickett Riding Club will have its second annual coggins clinic from 8 a.m. to noon at the Pickett Riding Arena. Dr. Garcia will be the vet. Coggins will be $20. Vaccinations will be West Nile, $15; tetanus, $15; rhino, $15, and rabies, $15.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site will be open from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Corsicana YMCA rear addition. This free tax assistance is generally for those with incomes below $42,000 and senior citizens needing help. For more information, call on-site VITA coordinator George Burrell at (903) 879-2091.
Navarro County Animals at Risk Foundation will conduct a low-cost equine vaccination clinic from 8 a.m. to noon at Rogers Animal Hospital, 1246 N. Business 45. Cost for vaccines will be $10, rabies; $15, coggins; $25, West Nile; $15, VEWT; and $15, flu rhino. NCARF will also offer farrier service provided by John Mulloy, a graduate of Texas Horseshoeing School. Trims will be $30 per horse.
A benefit will be held from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the VFW, 4609 W. State Highway 31, for Allen Fleenor of Mildred, who is a Vietnam War veteran who was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. A barbecue brisket dinner will be available for $5 per plate. A cover charge of $10 will be for the entertainment featuring Ira Bradford and Bustin Loose. You must be 21 to attend unless accompanied by a parent. Proceeds will help with medical expenses. Donations may also be made to Allen Fleenor Medical Fund account at Community National Bank & Trust. An auction and fund-raiser will be held at 5 p.m. at the Dawson Fire Department with proceeds to help with the cost of the Fourth of July celebration. There will be hamburgers, chips and drinks. Navarro County Branch NAACP will present the showing of “Freedom’s Song: 100 years of African-American struggle and triumph” at noon at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 1114 E. Navarro College Theatre Department will present “Traveling the Gnome Star State,” a children’s play by Shellie O’Neal, outdoors on the cycle wagon in the John Deere parking lot at Navarro College. Corsicana Preservation Foundation will have its second annual fund-raiser Twilight Ball from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at Halbert House. This year’s theme will be “April in Paris.” Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and champagne will be served. There will be music for dancing. The event will again be catered by chef Sharon Van Meter of Milestone Culinary Institute of Dallas. Several projects have been completed and more are scheduled for the new year.
