June 21

Powell Volunteer Fire Department will have a fish fry fund-raiser beginning at 5 p.m. at the fire station. Cost of the meal will be $8 per plate. Menu will be fish, french fries, beans, coleslaw, bread, tea and coffee. Funds raised will go towards new fire equipment that is needed.



The 20th annual Juneteenth parade will be held at 10 a.m. with the line-up beginning at 9 a.m. at Brookshire’s, 800 N. Main St. The parade route will begin at Brookshire’s traveling south on Main Street, west on Second Avenue, south on 12th Street, east on Fourth Avenue, south on Main Street, east on Sixth Avenue, north on Commerce, east on Fifth Avenue and continuing on G.W. Jackson Avenue, south on Parham, east on Sixth Avenue and ending at Bunert Park where the program will be held.

Bring a covered dish and come meet new friends. Drinks will be provided. Please bring canned goods fro the Navarro County Food Pantry. A guest speaker will be presented.



June 27

The Freedom Flag Project will hold a fund-raiser to assist with funding the numerous events held at Bunert Park in honor of local heroes. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., a barbecue plate dinner and bake sale will be held at the City of Corsicana Annex Building, located on Collin Street, behind the Corsicana Public Library. Navarro County Reach to Recovery will have a breast cancer health fair from 9 a.m. to noon in Classroom 2 of Navarro Regional Hospital. This will be the last health fair for 2008. If you are a breast cancer patient, you are encouraged to attend and receive vital information. Reach to Recovery, a service offered free of charge and a division of the American Cancer Society, offers support by breast cancer survivors, literature, temporary breast prosthesis, wigs, and other support. Rice 4-H will have a rabies clinic fund-raiser from 10 a.m. to noon at First State Bank in Rice and from 1 to 3 p.m. at Chatfield United Methodist Church. There will also be a drawing for a three-day, three-night guided fishing trip to Lake El Salto, Mexico. There will also be a drawing for a barbecue grill and a $200 gift card. Navarro County Amateur Radio Club will have its annual “Field Day” June 28-29. This year’s contest will be held at the Rice football field. Antenna and radio equipment set up will be from 8 a.m. to noon June 28. The contest for contacts will start at 1 p.m. June 28 and continue through June 29. The public is invited.

St. Elmo Cemetery Association will have its annual memorial service and homecoming. Services begin at 11 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church followed by lunch on the cemetery grounds. VOICE will offer the Texas Youth Tobacco Awareness Program, a state-approved program for minors charged with attempted purchase, consumption, or possession of tobacco and is designed to the mandates of Texas law. VOICE staff is certified to facilitate this program. The class will be an eight-hour program divided into four two-hour sessions. There will be a choice of morning or afternoon sessions — from 9 to 11 a.m. or from 3 to 5 p.m. July 15, 17, 22 and 24. Classes are $80 (cash only) for all sessions. July 19

A benefit for Bruce Holman will be held beginning at 5 p.m. at Frost City Park. There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, silent and live auction, live music featuring JJ Bratcher. Holman, a former resident of Frost and son of William and Linda Meskiman, was severely injured in an accident April 26. He will have many months of physical therapy. You are invited to come support Holman and his family. Also, a bank account has been established for donations at Community National Bank and Trust. Donations may be made to “Frost Volunteer Fire Department for Bruce Holman” at the Frost, Streetman and Fairfield bank locations, or at either of the two Corsicana locations.



The 110th Masonic District will have officer installation at 2 p.m. at the Corsicana Masonic Lodge. The Eastern Star ladies will serve refreshments after the ceremony. The public is invited.



July 22

Warehouse Living Arts Center’s Corsicana Children’s Company’s ninth annual theatre camp will be held. “Act and Seek” for kindergarten through second grade will meet from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at a cost of $55. “Imagination Station” for third through fifth grades will meet from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at a cost of $58.50. Students will need a sack lunch. “Innovative Imagineers” for sixth through eighth grades and from ninth to 12th grades will meet from 2 to 5 p.m. at a cost of $65. Cost for each class will include a T-shirt and a snack. Season-ticket holders and multiple family registrations will get a 10-percent discount.
