July 4

Blooming Grove Fourth of July parade will be held at 11 a.m. in downtown Blooming Grove. Lineup will be in the Blooming Grove High School parking lot between 10 and 10:30 a.m. Floats, horses, cars, bicycles, four wheelers, motorcycles, fire trucks, etc. are welcome.



A big Fourth of July celebration will be held in downtown Dawson at 10 a.m. with a parade following a prayer and national anthem. Vendors will be on hand with good food for sale and shopping. There will be a barbecue cook-off, tractor pull, and car show. Billy Roy Mitcham and the Heart of the Night band provide music for a street dance that night. Please bring your chairs for seating. There will be fun for all the family.



Blooming Grove Historical Society will have a float in the Blooming Grove Fourth of July parade. Therefore, no meeting will be held on July 7.



Long Prairie Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at noon at Long Prairie Cemetery, County Road SE3230, Kerens. The purpose of this meeting is for the election of officers and conducting other cemetery business. All those interested are invited to attend. Kerens Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Fourth of July celebration. Come and enjoy an old-fashioned Fourth with homemade ice cream, watermelon, hot dogs, dominoes, bingo, bounce house, games and a great fireworks show. It will begin around 6:30 p.m. on the brick streets of Kerens.



A Tea Party Rally will be held starting at noon in front of the Corsicana Government Center. Following the rally, anyone who would like to may caravan to the North Texas Rally, which will be held at South Fork Ranch in Parker. The North Texas Rally will have music, Michelle Malkin as speaker, food for sale, and fireworks after dark. For more information, call Tom at (903) 874-4327.



Corsicana’s Freedom Festival, sponsored by the Corsicana Rotary Club, will be held beginning at 6 p.m. at I.O.O.F. Park with a performance by local band New Life. There will be bounce houses, a clown doing balloon animals, and a concession stand. The fireworks display will begin around 9 p.m.



July 6

City of Blooming Grove will holds its monthly city council meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Blooming Grove City Hall, 200 S. Fordyce St.



Corsicana Masonic Lodge will have a stated meeting at 7:30 p.m. A meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. All masons are invited.



Piecemakers’ Quilt Guild will meet at Westhill Church of Christ. Visitors are welcome. Fellowship time will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the business meeting at 10 a.m. After the meeting, there will be a “block party,” which will be a Quilts of Valor project. Eighteen kits ready to sew have been prepared for this work day. Please bring sewing machines, pins, scissors, white thread, extension cords, power strips, irons and ironing pads. Anyone who has quilts they took home to bind should bring those quilts. Those working on blocks for this project should bring those. Lunch will be provided for participants in this workshop.



July 7

Corsicana Chapter No. 118, Order of Eastern Star, will hold a stated meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the Corsicana Masonic Lodge. A potluck supper will be served at 6:30 p.m. Linda Puckett, grand examiner, District One, will be providing a program on patriotism. All area OES members are invited. Oak Valley Crime Watch will have its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Oak Valley Community Center. The crime report will be given by the deputies. Bring a covered dish and join in for food and fellowship.

July 9

Corsicana Public Library, 100 N. 12th St., will have its children’s summer reading program at 11 a.m. Come decorate the library sidewalks with chalk. Come help celebrate summer by creating colorful artwork for everyone to enjoy. There will be lots of colors to choose from and as many designs as your imagination can discover. Topics covered will include first impressions, knowing your job, knowing your community, communicating clearly, handling problems effectively and making a lasting impression. Space is limited. July 11

Black Hills Cemetery Association will meet at 5 p.m. at Watkins Trophy Room, and the public is welcome to attend. There will be a Christian comedy program, followed by a light supper, homemade dessert and drink at $6 for adults and $3 for children 8 and under. Homemade cakes, cookies, canned goods, arts and crafts will be for sale. Also, you may try to win a quilt during the quilt raffle. Tickets are $1 each. Ellis County Equine Association will have an event beginning at 8 a.m. at the Navarro County Exposition Center, located on State Highway 22, Corsicana. The event will be free to the public. You are invited to come and watch.

VOICE will offer the Texas Youth Tobacco Awareness Program, a state-approved program for minors charged with attempted purchase, consumption, or possession of tobacco and is designed to the mandates of Texas law. VOICE staff is certified to facilitate this program. The class will be an eight-hour program divided into four two-hour sessions. This session will be Aug. 11, 13, 18 and 20. Two separate sessions will be offered on these dates. One will be offered from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the other from 4 to 6 p.m. Participants are required to attend all sessions.
