July 21
Any potential and current Tiger Band members and parents are invited for an informal information night in the Corsicana High School Band Hall at 6 p.m. Students and parents will also have a chance to meet the new band director, Michael Williamson. Food and drink will be provided. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Any questions about the band program will be answered. Parking will be provided behind the band hall next to the tennis courts.

Barry Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. at Barry United Methodist Church. The speaker will be Fred Biltz, Senior Activity Center director.

Navarro County Historical Society will hold its rescheduled meeting at 7 p.m. at the Senior Activity Center, 919 W. Park Ave., across from Pioneer Village. The speaker will be Betty Lambert, volunteer coordinator for the Pearce Civil War Museum at Navarro College. Many Navarro County men fought in the “War Between the States” and many died for the cause. This will be an interesting and informative program. Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy an after-meeting social and enjoy conversations with your fellow historians. Refreshments will be served.

July 22

A benefit will be held for the Mike Bailey family from 6 to 9 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church, 2800 N. Beaton St. The Bailey family has had numerous medical hardships recently. The benefit will be a gospel singing with the following performers: Farm Road 709, Glorybound, New Life, The Gospel Five, and Eternal River Band. A book sale, with proceeds going to Hopegivers International, a Christian ministry supporting orphans in India, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 28, July 31, Aug. 4 and Aug. 7 at B&B Media Group, 109 S. Main St. Suggested donations are $2 for hardcover books and $1 for softcover books.

July 29
Community Resource Council of the Corsicana Residential Treatment Center (Corsicana State Home) will have its seventh annual celebrity wait from 5 to 9 p.m. at Napoli’s, 111 E. Collin St. Tips received will go toward incentives for students at the CRTC. Funds raised can be used for graduation gifts, birthday cakes, small gifts, travel funds for family members, and various other things that the state does not pay for. You are invited to come support the resource council in this fund-raising endeavor.

The Navarro College PAL will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Cook Center on the Navarro College campus. All people 60 years of age and above are invited to attend. Bring a covered dish and come meet new friends. Drinks will be provided. Please bring canned goods for the Navarro County Food Pantry. The program will be a representative fro the Humane Society speaking about the local animal shelter and its progress and needs. Also discussed will be an upcoming field trip for the PAL group.

Aug. 2

Frost Community Center, 217 N. Garitty St., will have an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The center, a combined effort between Frost churches, Frost Volunteer Fire Department and several dedicated residents, will have a front room available for gatherings and the back of the center will house a food pantry and a clothing room. The center will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and every third Saturday of the month. Volunteers are needed. Warehouse Living Arts Center’s Corsicana Children’s Company’s ninth annual theatre camp will be held. “Act and Seek” for kindergarten through second grade will meet from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at a cost of $55. “Imagination Station” for third through fifth grades will meet from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at a cost of $58.50. Students will need a sack lunch. “Innovative Imagineers” for sixth through eighth grades and from ninth to 12th grades will meet from 2 to 5 p.m. at a cost of $65. Cost for each class will include a T-shirt and a snack. Season-ticket holders and multiple family registrations will get a 10-percent discount. Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28, 1961, and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between Aug. 5, 1964, and May 7, 1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with the application and dues. Members and guests are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

Aug. 16
The annual fajita cook-off, sponsored by the Navarro County A&M Club, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Fannie Mae Vernon Room of the Navarro County Exposition Center. Dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. Entertainment will be by Chris Dyer and more. Cost for meal will be $12 for adults, $6 for students 18 and under, and free for kids 6 and under.
