Oct. 15

Warehouse Living Arts Center’s Corsicana Children’s Company will hold auditions at 6 p.m. in the WLAC Theatre, 119 W. Sixth Ave. Frances Seidensticker Dodds will direct the show. The Christmas classic “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” has lots of roles available for kids ages 8 to 14, older teens and adults of all ages. The production dates will be Dec. 3-6. Those who plan to audition should bring school schedules, date books, work schedules, etc. in order to fill out a detailed rehearsal availability form. For more information, call (903) 872-5421.



Oct. 15-18

Navarro College Theatre Department will present “An Evening with Susan Glaspell and Georgia Douglas Johnson” at 7 p.m. Oct. 15-17 and 2 p.m. Oct. 18 in Dawson Auditorium on the college campus. This free, one-hour presentation will feature a performance of “Trifles” by Glaspell, under the direction of Daryl Worley, NC Theatre adjunct instructor; a performance of “Plumes” by Johnson, under the direction of Dr. Shellie O’Neal, theatre professor; and a lecture titled “Susan Glaspell and Georgia Douglas Johnson: Their Lives, Times and Works” by Beverly Pearson, NC associate professor of English. Oct. 17

Chatfield-Tupelo Community Center will hold its annual ice cream social at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome to enter a homemade ice cream to be judged. Please have entries turned in at 5:30 p.m. Cost will be $5 for adults and $2.50 for children 12 and under.



Corsicana High School Cheer Clinic will be held for children ages 4 through fifth grade from 1 to 4 p.m. at the CHS gym. Registration will begin at 12:45 p.m.



Angels of Corsicana will have its annual troop support drive beginning at 8 a.m. at the American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St. There will be a garage sale, bake sale, quilt raffle, and dinners consisting of hamburgers and chips for $5. Individual/travel-size items are needed to send to troops. (No aerosol products or pork products.) Also, you may sign a Christmas card to send to the troops. Angels of Corsicana will be helping pack for 1,500 people in the military. The fifth annual Kerens Cotton Harvest Festival will be held in downtown Kerens, sponsored by the Friends of the Kerens Library. Beginning the day will be a pancake breakfast from 7 to 9:30 a.m. There will be a flyover by the Coyote Squadron, live entertainment throughout the day, food booths, arts and crafts booths, CASI-sponsored chili cook-off, horseshoe tournament, clay target and turkey shoot, cotton gin tours, mule wagon and barrel train rides, trick riding performance, antique tractor show, quilt show, Dutch oven bake-off, cake and sweet bake-off, and conclude with a street dance from 8 to 10 p.m. with Ira Bradford and Bustin’ Loose. Oct. 19

The Republican Party of Navarro County will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on the seventh floor of the Bank of America building, 100 N. Main St., Corsicana. Russell Hudson, Navarro County tax assessor/collector, will explain the proposed state constitution amendments to be voted upon Nov. 3. All registered voters are welcome to attend. Navarro County Board of American Cancer Society will meet at noon at First United Methodist Church, 320 N. 15th St. The mission is to bring more awareness to Navarro County about the ACS services available to patients who are fighting cancer and their families. Navarro County Chapter AARP will meet at 2 p.m. at Northwest Apartments Community Room, 1360 N. 13th St. A discussion will be held on the 11 constitutional amendments that will be voted on Nov. 3 election day. Also, plans will be finalized for the upcoming holiday lunch for the employees of Northwest Apartments. Chapter president Elbert Turner urges all members to attend. Dawson Exes will have caps, visors and homecoming DVDs will be available for a $10 donation. Raffle tickets will be for sale at $5 each or three for $10. Oct. 23 events will be W.J. Moore golf at 9 a.m. (8:30 a.m. arrival suggested) at Corsicana Country Club, meet at 4 p.m. at Dawson High School cafeteria for visiting and snacks; and attend homecoming activities at 7 p.m. The Oct. 24 events will be to meet at 9 a.m. at DHS cafeteria for visiting and coffee, annual meeting at 10 a.m., raffle at 11:15 a.m. for three $100 bills, barbecue lunch at 11:30 a.m. ($9 contribution), and after meal socializing. Dawson PTO fall festival will begin at 3 p.m. at the Dawson City Park pavilion.

Navarro County NAACP will have its second annual Freedom Fund banquet at 7 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 1114 E. Sixth Ave. The theme will be “Celebrating 100 Years: A Quest for Freedom.” The speaker will be Aric Bonner, president of the Corsicana/Navarro County Chamber of Commerce. The 12th annual Scarecrow Stroll will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Northwest Third Street in Hubbard. Navarro County A&M Club will have its annual fajita cook-off in the Fannie Mae Vernon Room at the Navarro County Exposition Center. It will be all you can eat. Donations will be $12 minimum. Children under 6 will be free. Watch the Texas A&M vs. Texas Tech game on the big screen. Fajitas will be served 30 minutes before kick-off. Navarro County Republican Women will meet at noon on the seventh floor of the Bank of America Building, 100 N. Main St. The organization is open to all Republican women in Navarro County. Everyone who is interested is invited to attend and learn more about the organization. The organization is also collecting items and seeking donations for postage for the military troops. Donated items will be sent to a military unit deployed from Texas. Glenda Burres will present an overview of the 11 Texas constitutional amendments that will be on the ballot Nov. 2. VOICE will have their annual family fun fall festival from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Bank of America parking lot in downtown Corsicana. There will be games, prizes, bounce houses, a clown, magic, drawings for prize giveaways, hair painting, face painting and hot dogs. This community event will be free to the public. A special day will be held for a member of Winkler Masonic Lodge at 2 p.m. at the lodge. A special award will be presented to one of the members, followed by a barbecue dinner catered by Sam’s of Fairfield. The public is invited.



Nov. 2

A public meeting, sponsored by the PUSH committee will be held from 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. at the Corsicana Public Library, 100 N. 12th St. This meeting will be open to the public and residents and business owners and managers throughout Navarro County are encouraged to attend. The purpose of the meeting is to dialogue and to develop a plan of action to have the community more “business friendly.” The goal is to retain current jobs and employers and recruit new jobs to the community and county.
