Through Dec. 15

Frost PTO is sponsoring an Angel Tree in the Frost Elementary School foyer. Each angel is numbered and has the age and gender of a child and an item to purchase. If anyone would like to take an angel from the tree, come by the Frost school tax office and leave your name and phone number next to the number of the angel that you have taken. Angels attached to the wrapped item need to be returned by Dec. 15. For more information, contact Becky Melton at (903) 682-2711, Ext. 229.



Through December

Corsicana Fire Department will accept new unwrapped toys through Christmas for its 23rd annual Christmas for Kids. The toys will be given to The Salvation Army for distribution. If so desired, financial donations will also be accepted to purchase toys for the children. Drop-off locations will be at the city’s four fire stations: 200 N. 13th St., 310 S. Second St., 2212 W. Dec. 6

Sons of American Legion will meet at 3 p.m. at the American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St. The Ladies Auxiliary will meet at 4 p.m. To attend the meetings, membership must be current. Chatfield Volunteer Fire Department will have its annual bazaar from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the fire station. Crafts, baked goods and handcrafted items donated by members and others in the community will be available for sale with proceeds benefiting the Chatfield VFD and community efforts. There will also be a barbecue lunch, and the third edition of the Chatfield VFD cookbooks will be available for sale at $8 each.



Dec. 7

You are invited to honor and remember your loved one at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home’s eighth annual Tree of Remembrance at 3 p.m. A personalized ornament will be available to place on the “tree” for families who entrusted their loved one to Griffin-Roughton during their time of sorrow. Anyone who has endured a loss is welcome to come join in for words of comfort from Sam Dilbeck of Westhill Church of Christ and to enjoy the sounds of music from the Westhill Singers and Sandra Huffman. The annual memorial service for Hospice of Cedar Lake will be held at 3 p.m. in conjunction with Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in its chapel. All families of hospice patients who have passed away this year are invited as well as anyone who has lost a loved one. Refreshments will be served following the service.



The third annual Ranch Toy Run, sponsored by 106.9 FM The Ranch, will start at 9 a.m. for breakfast at Denny’s, located on Interstate 45 in Ennis and conclude at the Rockett Cafe and Club with a number of bands for entertainment. Entry into the run will be one new, unwrapped toy and two canned goods. The toy run will support the children in need in Ellis and Navarro counties.



Dec. 9

Corsicana Emergency Corps, 416 S. 12th St., will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. The general public is invited to attend. Monthly meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month. For more information, call (903) 872-5072.



Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave., Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28, 1961, and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between Aug. 5, 1964, and May 7, 1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with application and dues. Members and guests are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.



Corsicana High School Choir will have a fund-raiser from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Bookstack, 1427 W. Second Ave. Memories by Melissa will be set up and taking pictures of children with Santa. Two 4-by-6 photos will be $15 with a portion of the profit going to the choir. Choir students will also be selling hot chocolate and cookies. Proceeds will go toward the choir’s spring break trip to New York.



Blooming Grove Masonic Lodge will be dark to join the Eureka Masonic Lodge.



Eureka Masonic Lodge will host the Blooming Grove Masonic Lodge for its stated meeting at 7:30 p.m. A meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. All masons are invited.





Ellis-Navarro Chapter 1191, National Active and Retired Federal Employees, will meet at 11:30 a.m. at Ennis IHOP. Chapter officers for 2009 will be installed. Also, in the spirit of giving, members will bring children’s items (socks, underwear, etc., sizes 7 to 14) for Daniel’s Den in Waxahachie. Dec. 9-18

VOICE will offer the Texas Youth Tobacco Awareness Program, a state-approved program for minors charged with attempted purchase, consumption, or possession of tobacco and is designed to the mandates of Texas law. VOICE staff is certified to facilitate this program. The class will be an eight-hour program divided into four two-hour sessions. This session will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Dec. 9, 11, 16 and 18. Participants are required to attend all sessions. Classes are $100 (cash only) for all sessions. All participants must pre-register. Dec. 10-11

Navarro Regional Hospital Auxiliary will have a “Books R Fun” sale in the hospital dining room beginning from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Winona Stewart Scholarship Fund for Navarro College students going into a medical field.



Dec. 11

Navarro College SBDC will sponsor a session on creating a business plan from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Corsicana/Navarro County Chamber of Commerce, 120 N. 12th St. Cost of the workshop will be $20. A retirement reception will be held for Brenda Duncan and Darrell Raines from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Cook Center. You are invited to join the Navarro College family as these two longtime employees are wished well in their retirement.
