The Mildred Eagles won the 14-and-under state title in Texas Teenage Baseball in Hillsboro, which hosted the state toutnament from July 22 through July 27.

The Eagles drew a first round bye and opened with a 6-3 win against Leon in the second round. Wesley Huitt started on the mound for the Eagles and went one inning giving way to Dawson Woods. Woods pitched six innings, striking out 10 and picked up the first win in the tournament.

Huitt set the pace offensively. He went 3-for-4 and scored three runs. Woods went 2-for-4 and Stacy Bailey and Landon Pritchett wewre 1-for2. Zack Mahoney went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

The Eagles played East Texas Sliders from Canton in the second round and ripped the Sliders, 13-8.

Mahoney started and threw four innings to get the win with some middle relief help from Bailey. Huitt recorded the save.

Mahoney, Danny Smith and Noeh Solis each had two hits, and Landon Pritchett had a single and three walks and scored three runs.

The Eagles next faced the Academy Royals in the winners’ bracket championship game, and made quick work of Academy with a 14-4 win to advance to the title game.

Stacy Bailey got the win on the moound and some solid defense from the Eagles made life rough for the Royals. Huitt continued to do damage from his leadoff spot, going 2-for-2 with two walks. He score four runs to set the tone. Woods went 2-for4, Caleb Perez was 1-for-1 and Bailey, Pritchett, Mahoney, Mitchell Solis and Jake Harvell all went 1-for-3 and all drew walks as well.

The Eagles faced BMC Bears (Brownsboro, Murchison, Chandler) in the title game. BMC lost their first game of the tournament to Leon but battled back through the losers bracket to the championship.

BMC came back from an 8-5 deficit to beat the Eagles, 17-8, thanks to a nine-run fifth inning. That forced a winner-take-all championship game.

Mahoney (4-for-4), Huitt (3-for-4), Bailey (3-for4) and Woods (2-for-4) all had big games at the plate in the loss.

 Mahoney started the winner-take-all showdown and earned his second win on the mound. The Eagles jumped out quick and looked like they were going to make quick work of the title game, building a 10-0 lead with one out in the fifth. But the Eagles defense again had a letdown, allowing six runs in the fifth. Each team put up two runs in the sixth, giving Mildred a 12-8 lead heading into the final inning.

The Bears scored two runs to cut the lead 12-10, and with two runners on base and the go-ahead run at the plate, Mildred’s right fielder Caleb Perez made a diving catch to secure the win for the Eagles 12-10. The Eagles were lead offensively by Huitt (3-for-3 with a walk). Mahoney and Stacy Bailey both went 2-for-2 with two walks. Danny Smith went 3-for-4, and Solis went 2-for-4 and Woods and Pritchett went 1-4 in the title game.

Huitt hit .722 for the tournament. Mahoney hit .588 and Bailey batted .563. Smith hit .429 while Pritchett and Woods both hit .333. Solis batte .307 for the tournament.

The Eagles finished the season 15-3 and TTAB State Champions.
