Tobyus Thomas had 19 points and Paul Williams, Lane Green and Taylon Modester all had eight points as Kerens (2-0) rolled past Wortham, 57-31.

Blake Davis led Wortham (0-1) with 14 points.

Mildred 50, Rice 48

In a game that featured both teams playing short-handed, the Eagles out-lasted Rice in their season opener.

Down 27-26 at the half, Mildred (1-0) took a 36-34 lead into the fourth after Connor Hill hit two three-pointers in the third. Colby Pair added a pair of three pointers and two free throws in the fourth, but Dalton Pike’s three with 12 seconds left brought Rice to within 50-48.

The Bulldogs (2-1) got the ball back after a jump ball, but Hagen Barlow’s jumper from the top of the key at the buzzer missed the mark.

Pike had 23 to lead all scorers, while Clay Tores had seven points and 12 rebounds. Pike also had 15 rebounds.

TJ Trent led Mildred with 14 points. Hill had 12, and Pair 11 as the Eagles played with only eight players, and two varsity regulars because the football team is still playing. Hill and Cameron Burnham fouled out in the fourth. Hagen Williams had nine rebounds to lead the Eagles.

Rice played without starters Ragan Henderson and Matt Saxon.

Slade Chasteen had 21 points and Louis Lachney added 14 as Dawson beat Penelope, 61-43, for its first win of the season.

Jasmine Parks had 28 points and Brittany Coleman had 12 points as Dawson beat Penelope, 55-21, on Monday. Haylee Kimbriel had five points and eight assists.

Anna Jones led three scorers in double figures with 13 points as Wortham (6-3), fresh off a runnerup finish in the Buffalo Tournament, rolled past Blooming Grove, 49-17.
