The Malakoff Lady Tigers blanked Blooming Grove 10-0 on Thursday night in the first game of a 3-game Class 2A Region II bi-district playoff series.

The first inning was a big inning for Malakoff (25-5). Four walks, three errors, and two hits by Kailin Samples and Kelsie Schultie produced the first four runs of the game for Malakoff.

Malakoff’s pitcher Andrea Harris did a great job all night of keeping Blooming Grove (13-8) off balance and off the scoreboard. Blooming Grove was only able to produce two hits all night, Steely Southard had a single in the first inning and Haylee Shwartz had a single in the fifth inning.

Malakoff scored a run in the second inning when Kelsie Schultie had a double and Destiny Iacono drove her in with a single. There was not anymore scoring until the sixth inning when Malakoff broke the game wide open.

After Georgina Salazar walked to open the inning, Andrea Harris doubled to put runners at second and third. Kaitlin Samples singled to score Salazar and Harris, Sadie Woolverton walked and Schultie singled to score Samples. After a pop up to the shortstop, Iacono hit a had smash through the shortstops legs to allow the last two runs to score to make the final 10-0 Malakoff.

The game was a lot closer than the score board led you to believe. Malakoff had seven hits and also received seven walks from Blooming Grove plus the Lady Lions had three errors.

Blooming Grove is still in this series if they can cut down on the walks and make the routine play. The Lady Lions had chances in the first and fifth innings to get some things going, if they could get a timely hit or two.
