Lady Tigers prepare for key game vs. Ennis

By Todd Wills

Lady Tigers coach Laura Walker-Holmes isn’t telling her team that tonight’s game against Ennis is a must win.

But looking at the standings, they probably realize it’s a key game.

The Lady Tigers (11-10, 3-2) are tied for third place with Ennis and Waxahachie, and play the Lady Lions tonight.

Oh, and the Lady Tigers play the other Lady Lions, No. 19 Waco High (18-5, 4-1) on the road Friday night to complete the first round of district play.

So any way you look at it, tonight is crucial.

“That’s kind of the way I look at it (as a must-win game),” Walker-Holmes said. “My kids don’t react well to that so I’m not telling them it’s a must win. But we really need to get this win because winning at Waco is going to be really tough.”

The Lady Tigers bounced back from a 66-30 loss to No. 4 Midway last Tuesday by going on the road to Midlothian on Friday and winning 56-50.

Capricia Jones scored 23 points in the win. Amber Ames had 14 and Amari Dowell had 12.

As the season goes on, it looks more and more like the Lady Tigers will need big scoring nights from their Big 3.

“If Capricia doesn’t give me 20, then it needs to be Amber,” Walker-Holmes said. “If Capricia’s going to give me 15 a night, then I need at least 15 from Amber and 10 or 12 from Amari.”
