Tough lessons: Tigers enter final week a little more educated

— The Tigers are a little more educated going into the final week of spring practice.
After a grueling scrimmage Thursday, the Tigers offense held onto a small lead — based on a point system set up by the coaching staff — for a victory. Coach Dave Henigan spoke to his team after practice about the lessons they learned.
“(Thursday) the offense jumped out to a huge lead and in the second half they didn’t execute and the defense was able to come up with some turnovers and good stops,” Henigan said. “We are going to play some of the best teams in the state next year and they learned today that isn’t enough to jump out to a lead, you have to hold onto it.”
It was valuable lesson to learn going into the final week of spring practice.
The Tigers will have a short work out today and then take the weekend off before beginning the final week of spring practice.
They will hit the field Tuesday and Wednesday for regular practices before the spring game at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Henigan said he has seen a lot of positives this spring, but said the Tigers, “are what we are.”
“We look really good at times and like we need a lot of work at times,” he said, “but that is what we expected for being as young and inexperienced as we are.
“We have got better and the attitude and mentality are there, but we still have a long way to go.”
Cameron Young looks to be the young man who will take over for Ethan Bryant at quarterback.
Young was the starting quarterback for the junior varsity in 2007. Henigan said Young has had a good spring and looks to be ready to take over.
“He’s a real smart player,” he said. “He makes accurate passes and good decisions.
“That’s what you want out of your quarterback.”
Admission to Thursday’s spring game is $3 with all proceeds going to Relay For Life.
