Gold All-Stars pick up 11-5 win over Lone Oak

The Corsicana Gold All-Stars had to rally late to take their first win of the Pony League regional tournament.

The Gold team battled to get past Lone Oak 11-5 Friday in Rowlett.

“The kids did really well,” Gold team coach Dale Folmar said. “They kept themselves in the game and came through in the final inning.”

Trailing 1-0 to Lone Oak after the first inning, the two teams battled the rest of the way.

Knotted up at 5-5 and going into the seventh inning, Corsicana took control.

The Gold team came through in the clutch, driving in six runs in the final inning to take the lead.

Ryan Hall held off Lone Oak in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win in relief.

Dane Blackwood made his presence felt for the Gold team with three hits, including a triple.

The Gold All-Stars made their way to the regional tournament after slugging their way to a 10-4 win over the Garland Owls in the sectional tournament finals in Rowlett.

The Corsicana Gold All-Stars will take on the loser of Corsicana Blue All-Stars-Rowlett game at 10 a.m. today.

Folmar says he would look forward to the chance of playing the Blue All-Stars again.

“I would like to be able to play them again,” he said. “They are the best team in the tournament.

“They are the favorites, but we would be ready to go against them.”

The Gold All-Stars fell to the Blue All-Stars Thursday to open the tournament.
