Top-ranked Navarro out runs Golden Norsemen

The No.1 ranked Navarro Bulldogs kept their win streak alive Saturday, running over the Northeastern A&M Norsemen 65-24 in Miami, Okla.

NEO struggled to stop the Bulldogs’ ground game, allowing Navarro to rattle of total yards rushing with both William Powell and Justin Sturns exceeding 100 yards.

Vectric Sam was the first Bulldog to get into the end zone, scoring from the one-yard line in the opening minute of the first quarter.

Navarro quickly added to their advantage with a Powell goal line score to go ahead 14-0.

The Norseman proved that they had an effective ground game as well with Durell Parker and Cardel Clemons scores to tie the game.

The Bulldogs were able to answer as they went back Powell. Powell reeled off a 67 yard touchdown to put Navarro ahead 21-14 early in the second quarter.

Going to the air Navarro scored again with a 59-yard pass from Milton Howell to Rodney Bradley.

Howell went 13-of-17 passing in the game for 200 yards.

The Norsemen responded with a 14-yard score to stay with in a touchdown, but Howell negated NEO’s offense as he kept the ball in his own hands and get into the end zone in the closing seconds of the first half.

Ahead 35-21, the Navarro went back to work picking up a safety as Brandon Joiner blocked a NEO punt in the back of the end zone.

With the Norseman only able to record a field goal on their following possession, the Navarro running backs went back to work.

Justin Sturns carried the ball 30 yards for the touchdown to give the Bulldogs a 44-24 advantage heading to the final quarter.

Sturns totaled 103 yards rushing against NEO on 14 carries.

The Navarro defense continued to step up as it held NEO scoreless in the fourth while the Bulldogs offense kept up the pace.

Howell, Sam and Sturns each scored once more on the ground to cruise past the Norsemen.

Navarro will be back at home looking stay undefeated for the season next week as they face off against Cisco at 3 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
