The Tigers tennis team in sixth place out of 16 teams at the Class 4A Region II Tennis Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Grapevine.
The Tigers defeated Longview Pinetree, 10-0, in the first round; lost to Frisco Wakeland in a close match, 10-9, in the second round; beat Kilgore, 10-1, to make it to the fifth-place match; and lost to Richardson Pearce, 10-4, to take sixth in the two-day tournament.
“Overall I thought we had a pretty good team effort throughout the tournament,” Tigers tennis coach Jason White said. “I was a little disappointed in a few places against Frisco Wakeland. We had some opportunities to close that match out and be in the semifinal on Day 2, playing Highland Park. That would have been a lot of fun.
“I thought we rebounded really well to beat Kilgore 10-1,” White said, “and then we just ran into a team that played better than we did in the fifth-place match. We competed pretty well in the doubles at the beginning but they just ran away with it when we got to the singles.”
The Tigers were 17-5 for the team tennis season. They will resume play in the spring as the individual portion of the tennis season begins.
