Kaycee Spears gave her Navarro Lady Bulldog teammates everything she had Wednesday afternoon.
Spears pitched a complete game one-hitter in the opener of a doubleheader against Trinity Valley as Navarro won 6-0 at the Navarro Softball Fields.
The only frustrating part of the day is that Spears was the hard luck loser in Game 2, a 7-6 loss in which she came back and allowed three hits and an earned run in 2 2/3 innings.
“She threw really well today,” Navarro coach Jessica Karenke said. “She just lost on an unearned run.”
Ashley Anz and Brianna Bryant also pitched in Game 2 for the Lady Dawgs. Navarro is now 29-16 for the season and 12-4 in conference play with eight games to go. The Lady Dawgs have weekend doubleheaders at Northeast on Saturday and first-place Texarkana on Sunday.
The top hitters for Navarro were Jessica Marshburn, who was 5-for-8 with four runs and two stolen bases; Valerie Ramirez, who was 3-for-6 with a double, home run, three RBIs and three runs; Abby Moore, who was 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs; and Marisa Malazzo, who was 4-for-7 with two doubles and two RBIs.
