RICE — The Rice baseball team made perfection look easy Tuesday night at home.

The Bulldogs, ranked No. 5 in Monday’s Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association (THSBCA) Class 1A poll, hammered Slocum, 20-0, in the regular-season finale.

Rice (23-2) clinched its second consecutive district crown a while back, but the home team showed no mercy against the hapless Mustangs as senior Aaron Anderson picked up the win on the mound in a complete-game, seven-strikeout performance.

The Bulldogs crossed home plate nine times in their first at-bat and scored in every inning. Humberto Aguinaga, Justin Reyes and Lupe Hernandez all drew walks to start the game. An error brought home Aguinaga, another defensive miscue accounted for two more runs and a Dustin Calhoun double knocked in Hernandez and Nathan Myers.

Cody Cheek singled to right to plate Calhoun, and Reyes later tripled to right to score Anderson and Chase Henderson (3-for-3). A Hernandez base hit to left brought home Reyes to round out the first-inning barrage.

Rice also played the playoff-bound Frost Polar Bears in the nightcap, winning 10-0 in six innings as Reyes struck out 15 batters, while Calhoun hit a solo home run and struck out three in relief.
