Corsicana — Fresh off three post-holiday games in three days at the Kiwanis Classic, the Rice Bulldogs went right back to the floor Monday for two games at the Rice Invitational. The Bulldogs beat Covington, 62-23, then lost to Lago Vista, 56-52.
The Bulldogs are now 12-4.
In the win over Covington, the Bulldogs built a 29-6 lead in the first period, and led 50-11 at the half. Sim Nezar had 18 points to lead the Bulldogs, and Daniel Arteaga had 16. Raven Huffman added nine, and Austin Peppers had seven.
A pourous third period cost the Bulldogs against Lago Vista. The Bulldogs outscored Lago Vista 18-9 in the second period to take a 27-17 lead into the break. But the Bulldogs were outscored 21-10 in the third, and trailed by a point heading into the fourth. Nezar (19), Arteaga (14) and Huffman (13) led the Bulldogs in scoring again.
