4-19-13 Roundup

From Staff Reports

The Lady Bears of Frost needed just three innings to dispose of Covington, 15-0, in the regular season finale Friday. An eight-run first inning fueled the route.

Dakota Lassetter, Kaycee Bowling, Jae Moore and Madison Revill all had two hits each for the Lady Bears, who finished the season 9-3 in District 12-1A, and 11-3 overall after an extended basketball season. Jae Moore earned her 11th win, allowing a hit and striking out six.

Frost finished in a second-place tie in 12-1A, and will face Hubbard at a site and time to be determined in bi-district.

Mildred 9, Blooming Grove 1: It was senior night in Mildred as the Lady Eagles wrapped up an undefeated district campaign. Mildred's Olivia Farmer did not disappoint, the senior scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Joanna Tapley. She drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the third inning on a sacrifice fly to rightfield and smashed a two run homerun over the right-centerfield fence in her last at-bat for the final runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Savannah Pritchett had two hits and an RBI and Callie Bland had a hit and two RBIs for the Lady Eagles. Aubyn Turner and Maddie Moore each added a hit for Mildred.

Steely Southard and Lauren Miller each had hits for Blooming Grove. Hannah Chaffin scored the Lady Lions only run in the second inning on a throwing error.

Aubyn Turner picked up the win on the mound for the Lady Eagles. She gave up only two hits and struck out eight in her five innings of work. Falcon Thompson took the loss for the Lady Lions. She gave up seven hits and struck out six.

Kerens 12, Leon 11: Nineteen of the game’s 23 runs came in the final three innings, with the Bobcats scoring four in the seventh after falling behind, 11-8, in the top of the final frame.

The non-district game, originally scheduled for Saturday at Corsicana High School, was moved to Friday when Fruitvale cancelled its District 19-1A game with Kerens.

Kerens led 2-0 before Leon plated two runs in the fourth. The Cougars then piled on six in the fifth. With a five-run sixth, Kerens tied the score at 8-8, then gave up three runs in the top of the seventh.

Dylan Woods moved to 2-0 on the mound with the victory. Brett Anderson went 3 for 4 to lead the Bobcats offense, while Woods had a pair of hits.
