Blooming Grove 10-U softball team heads to state

Corsicana — The Blooming Grove Blue Cush Under-10 softball team is headed to the state tournament in Sherman after battling back in the loser’s bracket of the district tournament.

The Blue Crush lost to the BMC Dirt Divas in the opening game but defeated the Corsicana Lil Dawgs, the Athens Lady Rangers and the Mabank Supernovas to earn a berth in the third-place game, where they beat BMC to advance to the championship game.

The Blue Crush is made up of girls from Blooming Grove and three girls from Kerens.

Reece Briggs pitched every game and highlights included Kinley Skains hitting a grand slam to win the semifinal game and Alex Fisher belting a homer over the left field wall in the title game.

The team is holding a bake sale from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday at Food Rite in Kerens and at A1 grocery in Blooming Grove to earn money for the trip to state.
