Navarro: Bulldogs baseball and Lady Bulldogs softball teams both earn national ranking

From Staff Reports
Corsicana Daily Sun

Corsicana — Navarro’s Bulldogs, who are hoping to return to the Juco World Series will open thir season with a doubleheader at home at noon on Friday against North Central.

And they will start the season ranked No. 5 in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Top 20 preseason poll.

The Bulldogs are ranked No. 8 in Collegiate Baseball’s Top 20 preseason poll.

The Lady Bulldogs softball team is ranked No. 13 in the NJCAA preseason poll.

The Bulldogs went 40-16 last year and came close to winning it all. They return three every day starters — Third baseman Grayson Lewis, catcher  Jovan Hernandez and outfielder J. P. Phillips — and two starting pitchers — J.D. Hammer and Jack Moffitt.

They also added LSU transfer Braden Strickland, a righthanded pitcher from Gun Barrel.

The Lady Bulldogs, who were 29-19, are loaded and added Golden Circle Player of the Year Olivia Farmer from Mildred.

The Lady Bulldogs, who bring back a lot of talent, bring back six starters, including All-American shortstop Monique Miller.

And the addition of power-hitting third baseman Kristen Ahearn,  transfer from Arkansas Tech, makes the left side of the Navarro defense one of the best in the nation.

A new rule allows two teams from the region to reach the national tournament, and that’s the goal at Navarro.

The Lady Bulldogs open their season in the Galveston Tournament, where they face Blinn at 9 a.m. on Friday.
