It’s almost rodeo time in Navarro County.
The Navarro County Pro Rodeo, sponsored by Berry Chrysler, Dodge & Jeep in conjunction with the Loan Depot, is coming to town next weekend at the Navarro County Youth Exposition Center.
Gates will open at 6 p.m. both Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1, with the rodeo beginning about 8 p.m. Pre-rodeo entertainment, set for 7 p.m., is scheduled to be kids mutton bustin’ and the Heart of Texas Cowgirl’s Drill Team.
Proceeds from the rodeo will benefit the Navarro County Go Texan scholarship.
“We want the fans to walk away from this rodeo having experienced a production like the Navarro County Expo Center has not seen before,” said David Atkeisson of VLK Productions. “We want our partners to truly feel like partners, that they got a good value with us and that they are appreciated. We want the Go Texan Foundation to be pleased that we represented them well.
The rodeo is being presented by VLK Productions, spearheaded by Atkeisson, from Kerens, and his partner, Ronald Burton. It’s the former Derrick Days Rodeo put on by Hat Brand Rodeo Company.
The stock will continue to be provided by Hat Brand.
“I’ve been around this rodeo for years,” Atkeisson said.
Burton, an award-winning clown, will handle the entertainment part.
“People can expect an exciting, fun filled, show that the whole family can enjoy, including mutton bustin’ for the kids and a performance by the Heart of Texas Cowgirls drill team,” Burton said. “They will see some of the best cowboy and cowgirl talent in the state of Texas, and some of the rankest bulls and wildest horses in the rodeo business.”
Cowboys from the Cowboy Pro Rodeo Association (CPRA) and United Pro Rodeo Association (UPRA) will compete.
