GC Baseball Roundup: Kerens rallies for win

Bobcats stun No. 4 Cayuga 2-1 in 8 innings

The Kerens Bobcats moved into first place all alone in District 19-1A on Tuesday night, rallying for a 2-1 victory over No. 4 Cayuga in extra innings in Kerens.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the eighth, DJ Kamp started the game-winning rally wth single to right field. Zach Duncan followed with a sacrifice bunt to move Kamp into scoring position. Brett Anderson then doubled to left field, scoring Kamp with the tying run.

The Bobcats (10-2, 7-0) weren’t done. Dylan Woods walked to put runners at firrst second. A wild pitch moved by Cayuga’s Chance Holland moved Anderson to third. And then Anderson scored the winning run as Holland balked as Woods tried to steal second base.

Anderson, coming off of back-to-back no-hitters pitched seven scoreless innings, striking out 13. Dustin Jock started the eighth in relief and walked the first two batters. Mike Kline then came in and got Kerens out of the inning allowing only one run.

That allowed the Bobcats to make their game-winning rally.

  • GC Baseball: Kerens' Anderson makes TSWA/Collin Street Bakery all-state team at four positions

Call it the rarest of rares, at least as far as all-state teams go. Brett Anderson of Kerens shows up on the Texas Sports Writers Association/Collin Street Bakery all-state team not one, not two, not three, but four times. Dawson's Lane Dotson was a second-team outfielder, and the Bulldogs' Trent Underwood made the third-team as a pitcher, and also garnered an honorable mention nod at first base. Kerens outfielder Brent Warren was also an honorable mention pick.

  • RON MORGAN.jpg Morgan: All-star games and all-star shame

If there is anything more useless than a political promise, it’s an all-star game. I don’t care what sport at what level. Any all-star game is simply an exhibition, a reward for being among the best (maybe). Any one of them is about as relevant as the IRS’s “dog ate my homework” excuse for losing emails.
