From Staff Reports
Blooming Grove has moved quickly to replace Gary Grubbs, the former football coach and athletic director who left at the end of school year to take a job at Buffalo.
Boys basketball Coach Ben Kinnison has been promoted and is now the school's athletic director, and defensive coordinator Lawrence Williams has been promoted and is the new head football coach.
“Im excited,'' Kinnison said. “It's an opportunity a lot of people in my position don't get. I'm pretty fired up about it.''
Williams has been the defensive coordinator for the Lions since coming to Blooming Grove from Kermit two years ago, and his defense has been a big part of BG's success of late.
“I think we've got the best football coach in the state for our kids,'' Kinnison said. “For our kids and our situation, he is the best coach in the state.
“Our kids and our community love him,'' he said.
“Coach Grubbs did some good things while he was here. With the staff we have we are looking forward to moving ahead and continuing to grow.
“When he came here two years ago he brought a different demeanor and mentality to our football team.''
