GC Volleyball: Dawson holds off Frost, Kerens goes 2-1 in Eustace Tournament

Dawson — Dawson edges Frost

It took five games, but Dawson held back Frost on Friday, winning the match, 21-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 15-12.

Demi Dotson  (eight kills) and sophomore Stephanie Lindsey (11 kills) led Dawson.

Frost was led by Kaycee Bowling, who had two kills, 19 assists and seven aces, Heather Montgomery, who had seven aces and 100 percent serving, Hillaree Schwartz, who had eight kills, 11 assists and 11 digs, Jae Moore, who had 13 kills, eight digs and two blocks, and Madison Revill, who had nine kills and five digs.



Kerens goes 2-1 in opening day of Eustace Tournament

The Lady Cats swept Fruitvale and Kemp and lost a close three-game match to Brookhill, 15-25, 25-23, 25-23 in the Eustace Tournament on Thursday. It was the first loss of the season for Kerens.

Taylor Ames went 33-of-39 serving with five aces and she had 38 assists, three kills and three blocks for the three matches. Tinesha Tolliver had four kills, three blocks and 12 digs and she was 25-of-29 serving with five aces. Breanna Baxter went 29-of-33 serving with nine aces, 16 kills and 22 blocks for the day. Cambree Betts was 26-of-26 in serving with five aces. She had 16 blocks, 13 digs and two kills. Emmauella Armant had 10 blocks, eight kills and five digs, and Marqueshia Kelly had 18 blocks, 12 kills and 15 digs. Kayla Kilcrease was 24-of-29 serving with five aces and had 18 digs. Hannah Hall went 4-for-4 serving and had one dig.

  • GC Baseball: Kerens' Anderson makes TSWA/Collin Street Bakery all-state team at four positions

    Call it the rarest of rares, at least as far as all-state teams go. Brett Anderson of Kerens shows up on the Texas Sports Writers Association/Collin Street Bakery all-state team not one, not two, not three, but four times. Dawson's Lane Dotson was a second-team outfielder, and the Bulldogs' Trent Underwood made the third-team as a pitcher, and also garnered an honorable mention nod at first base. Kerens outfielder Brent Warren was also an honorable mention pick.
