GC Volleyball Roundup: Corsicana, Wortham, Frost all have big days in tournaments

Corsicana — Wortham sweeps

Wortham is off to a fast start and improved to 4-0 for the season with three wins on Thursday in the Dawson Tournament.

Wortham, which has a new coach in Johnny Ward, beat Neches, 25-7, 25-6, beat T.K. Gorman, 25-22, 25-20, and Frankston, 25-13, 25-15, in the Palestine Westwood Tournament. Wortham plays again on Saturday.

 

Blooming Grove at Venus Tourney

Steely Southard had 14 kills and two blocks and Falcon Thompson had 13 assists to lead the Lady Lions, who lost a pair of games and then split with Palmer on Thursday in the Venus Tournament.

Blooming Grovee lost to Keene, 26-24 and 25-18 in a close match to being pool play, and then fell to Italy 25-20, 25-22 in a close match in the second round.

Blooming Grove rebounded and split two games with Palmer, winning 25-22 before losing the final game, 25-22.

Blooming Grove will play in the tournament again on Saturday in a 9 a.m.bracket game against Venus .

The Lady Lions will play a regular season match at home against Italy at 1 p.m. today.
