Tigers softball rolls past John Tyler to move to 5-2

Corsicana — The Tigers softball team traveled to John Tyler Tuesday night to continue their district season. The Tigers defeated John Tyler,17-5, giving them a 5-2 record in District 16-4A.

Raylee Smithart took the mound for the Tigers against John Tyler after pitching a no hitter on Friday night against Jacksonville. Smithart had four strikeouts.

The Tigers attacked first with a 5-0 lead in the top of the first. Katy Polk lead off with a walk, Kelsie Triplett knocked Polk in, Sidney Kirk followed with another walk and Smithart singled, scoring both Triplett and Kirk. Leeah Seth singled scoring Smithart.

The Tigers added to the lead in the third inning, adding three more runs scored by Carly Cates, Jourdan Bruce and Ashley Spence from Polk’s single to right field. The Tigers finally put John Tyler away in the fourth, scoring eight runs, started by Kirk’s double and followed by Smithart’s triple.

The Tigers host Nacogdoches Friday, and it is Youth Softball Night. Athletes wearing a team jersey can get in for free with a paid parent ticket.
