It was a chilly gloomy evening and some of the Rice players emotions resembled that after the game. Riesel came out swinging, scoring 7 runs in the 1st inning and never looked back as they cruised to a 16-1 victory Thursday.
In the top of the 1st Riesel's Morgan Evans had a big two-out triple that scored 3 runs to make the score 7-0. It was Evans' second hit of the inning. Rice's Sam Harris had a lead off single to right field to start the bottom of the 1st but that would be Rice's only hit of the game.
Savannah Martinez took the mound for Riesel (13-11, 5-2 in District 23-2A), striking out five batters in the four innings she pitched and only allowing 1 run. Rice did manage to get runners on via walks but just couldn't find a way to drive them in.
Hanna Owens got the start for the Lady Bulldogs (7-13, 1-6 in District 23-2A). Owens pitched well but the Lady Indians were aggressive and put the ball in the right spots. Ashton Metcalfe came on in the 3rd to pitch relief, striking out one and allowing a run.
The Lady Indians offense was lead by Morgan Evans, with two triples along with 4 RBIs, and Martinez also got it done not only from the mound but from the plate as well with three hits.
Rice is hoping to get back on track next week when they travel to Teague.
