RECORDS: Records: Class 2A-Grand Saline 0-3, Class 1A-Kerens 1-2

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Kerens: WR/DB Dontarius Bryant , OL//DL Brian Brumbelow, OL/LB Daedion Tolliver. Grand Saline: QB/DB Austen Truett, FB/LB Jake Bennett, LB/OL Cody Mercer.

 UPDATE: The Kerens Bobcats will go on the road once again this week after the loss at the hands of the Malakoff Tigers last week 40-8 in the 75th renewal of the Trinity River Rivalry ... Kerens will look to regroup and pick up a win against the 0-3 Grand Saline Indians ... Grand Saline was hammered last week by 3-0 Edgewood, 45-0 ... If ever two teams needed each other, then it's this week ... Nate Betts leads all Bobcats with 298 yards on the ground and 4 TD's .... Kerens will look to get its defense going as well after allowing 108 points through the first three games ... Edgewood will be led by QB Austen Truett and FB Jake Bennett ... each has scored once on the ground this season ... Grand Saline has scored only 23 points this season and has given up 111 points.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Frost: DB/K Alex Cruz, OL/DL Colton McGill, DB Justin Patton, RB/DB Robert Worley.  Itasca:  RB/LB Khumbu Bailey, LB Cole Coleman, QB Brandon Farquhar, RB/DB Tamarcus Sheppard, LB Todd Willis.  

UPDATE:  Last week the Polar Bears beat Dallas Gateway 42-12 … McGill and his fellow offensive lineman opened the holes that allowed Worley to rush for 130 yards and RB Woody Woods for 117 yards ...  freshman RB with Kobe Hailey chipped in 70 yards rushing and two touchdown receptions for 53 yards … Frost has a lot of balance in the backfield ... Hailey has rushed for 193 yards this season, Worley has gained 179 yards and Woods 106 ... Patton, Worley, and Hailey had interceptions last week while Cruz had two pass break-ups … Frost beat Itasca 39-14 last year … Itasca fell to Meridian last week 24-21… the Wampus Cats have been outscored by an average of 29 points a game through three games … Farquhar is a third-year starter under center and Willis was All-District last season.

Wortham at

Cross Roads

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Wortham: WR/LB Corey Cox, WR/DB Zach Jones, OL/DL Skylar Jordan, WR/DB Rudy Miller. Cross Roads: WR/LB Justin Vaughn, WR/DB Trey Hazelip, WR/DB Garrett McCurley,

UPDATE: Both Wortham and Cross Roads are coming off two losses after winning the season openers ... the Bulldogs have had to play back-to-back games against teams ranked in the top 20 in the state ... they have been able to reach the end zone only once in the last two weeks ... they lost to No. 23 Chico 39-0 to weeks ago and lost to No. 20 Cayuga 49-8 last week ... Wortham has failed to get anything going on offense and the Bulldogs have gone 1-for-16 on third-dwon conversions ... quarterback, Witty Busby has been held to only 95 yards passing with three interceptions ...  Busby’s best receivers have been Kenneth Freeman (3-34),  and Daniel Trantham (4-57) ... Lopez has eight sacks and 11 tackles ... he is also one of the Wildcats’ leading rushers with 144 yards.

Axtell at Dawson

RECORDS:Class 1A DI Axtell is 2-1. Class 1A DII Dawson is 0-3.

 PLAYERS TO WATCH:  Axtell: RB Michael Milburn, FB Dylan Harralson, LB Garrett Wilson, L Cody Gohlke. Dawson: LB Josh Boatright, LB Lane DuBose, RB/CB Ian Norwood, WR/CB Jared Gray.

UPDATE: Both schools are coming off losses to 2A schools, with Axtell falling to Crawford, 40-6, and Blooming Grove beating Dawson, 63-0 ... Axtell won last year’s meeting, 55-0 ... Milburn is the workhorse for the Longhorns, have rushed for 531 yards and 6 TDs on 48 carries ... Axtell doesn’t throw much, with QB Kotlen Hurst (6-17-1) only having 91 yards through three games ... the Longhorns are averaging 24.0 points per game, and allowing 26.3 ... Dawson’s Ian Norwood ranks 13th in the Golden Circle in receiving yards with 39 ... QB Lane Dotson (21-49-4) has thrown for 81 yards and rushed for 114 to lead the Bulldogs ... this is a stretch of three straight home games for the Bulldogs; they host Bosqueville next week, Normangee for homecoming Oct. 4 and then get a bye week before District 9-2A DII play begins.
