RECORDS: Millsap is 2-3, 1-1 in District 6-2A DII. Mildred is 4-1, 2-0.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Millsap: RB Andrew Tyson, RB/LB Timothy Newberry, QB Nick Lucia, L Tre Newby. Mildred: L Jasper Marshall, RB/S Joey Palos, WR/LB Dalton Horner, L Joshua Fountain.

 UPDATE: Mildred won last year’s meeting, 77-0 ... Mildred beat Rio Vista, 61-8, last week, while Millsap lost to Tolar, 48-7 ... it’s homecoming in Mildred ... Tyson had a pair of TD runs (2, 21) in the Bulldogs’ 20-0 win over Rio Vista two weeks ago ... at 11.0 points per game, Millsap has the worst scoring offense in 6-2A DII ...  in 2009, Millsap was 8-3, (Mildred was 6-5); since that season, the Bulldogs are 9-26 (including 0-10 last year) while Mildred is 39-7 ... Mildred QB Will Burnham had his first 100-yard rushing game last week (10-101, 4 TDs) ... the Eagles forced five turnovers last week and are a plus-13 in takeaways this year ... with one more win, Mildred coach Billy Dan Chambliess would tie for the fifth-most wins in a rookie campaign since 1960. Larry Stinson was 10-2-1 in his lone season (’76). Chambliess’ predecessor, Patrick Harvell, is second with a 7-4 season in ‘08.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Kerens: QB Nate Betts, WR/DB Brett Anderson, L Brian Brumbelow, WR/K Jovani Coronado, Cayuga: QB/LB John Vickery, RB/DB Keshawn Jackson, RB/LB John Venable, WR/DB Payton Wallace

 UPDATE: The Bobcats are coming off a 50-20 loss to Hubbard ... this will be the first district game for both teams .... Cayuga was idle last week ... Cayuga has scored 202 points this season, averaging 50.2 points per game ... Cayuga has a balanced offense, but wants to control the clock with Vanable (6-1, 220) ... he not only has the size, but speed ...  when Cayuga wants to pass the Wildcats can go up top to their 6-7 WR, Chris Wilson ... Kerens will be led by dual threat QB Nate Betts .... Betts has scored 84 of the Bobcats’ 144 points, and has 981yards of total offense ... Betts will rely on WR Brett Anderson when the Bobcats need a first down, and to stretch the field to help the running game ... WR Jovani Coronado has also emerged as of late and hauled in a 37-yard TD pass from Betts against Hubbard.

Rio Vista

at Rice

RECORDS:
Rio Vista is 1-4, 0-2 in District 6-2A DII. Rice is 1-4, 0-2.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Rio Vista: QB/DB Dylan Nelson, L Collin Odell, WR/DB Gareth Crisp, RB/DB Jordan Ward.  Rice: WR/DB Daniel Arteaga, RB/LB Jesus Garcia, WR/DB Simuel Nezar, L Justin Smith.

 UPDATE: It’s the fourth meeting between the two schools, with Rio Vista winning the first two before Rice won a wild one last year, 38-35, behind Chris Atchley’s 159 yards rushing and three touchdowns …  both teams are looking for their first district win … Rice LB Alex Stough led the Bulldog defense with 13 tackles in last week’s loss to Blooming Grove … Simuel Nezar is third on the Bulldog defense in tackles … Atchley rushed for over 200 yards and two touchdowns last week … Raven Huffman had two catches for 38 yards last week … Rio Vista, after beating Itasca to open the season, has lost four straight in a row … Nelson led the Eagle offense in rushing last week against Mildred … Gareth Crisp has scored the only points in district play for the Eagles, a 9-yard touchdown last week versus Mildred.

 at Wortham

RECORDS:
Class 1A Meridian is 2-4 and 0-0 in District 9-1A DII. Wortham is 3-3 and 0-0.

 PLAYERS TO WATCH:  Wortham: QB Witty Busby, RB/DB Kenneth Freeman, WR/DL Daniel Trantham, L Angus Worchester. Meridian: QB Nick Prestwood, RB/LB Chad Crawford, RB/LB Adrian Rapoz, C Nick Doughty.

UPDATE: It’s the district opener and a key game for Wortham ... The Bulldogs are trying to bounce back from a 46-12 loss to Axtel last week while Meridian is coming off a cliffhanging 19-16 win over Valley Mills ... Last year’s game between Wortham and Meridian was a classic ... Wortham came back twice in the final six minutes to win 15-8 ....Busby scored with 5:57 to lead the comeback .. Busby is leading the Bulldogs this season .. he is the second leading rusher in the Golden Circle behind Corsicana’s Tray Owens, and has run for 663 yards with a 7.2 average and 6 TDs .. Busby has also thrown for 334 yards and four ouchdowns, but he has been intercepted five times ...Busby rushed for 128 yards and a TD in last week’s loss, and also threw a TD pass.

Class 2A Blooming Grove is 3-2, 1-1 in District 6-2A DII. Class 2A Oak Cliff Life is 0-5, 0-2 in 0-2.

 PLAYERS TO WATCH:
  Oak Cliff Life: WR Justin Holden, DB Gino Iglehart, LB Richard Rodriguez, RB DeBryalon McClinton. Blooming Grove: RB/LB Travis Whiteside, QB/K Tyler Ellis, RB Tyler Morris, WR Brandon Hays.

UPDATE: It’s a big game for Blooming Grove, which bounced back from a tough district opening loss to Mildred with 29-17 win over Rice ... BG trailed 10-7 at halftime ... Ellis ran for three TDs last week and Morris ran for one and the Lions took avantage of three second half turnovers ...the Lions had no trouble with Oak Cliff Life last year in a  , 59-10 rout ... Whiteside caught a TD pass, ran for a TD and returned a kickoff 82 yards for a TD in the win ... Morris is one of the top runing backs in the Golden Circle (478 yards and a 7.2 average) and BG’s defense is ranked second in the Golden Circle (223.8 yds per game ...BG’s offense is third in the Golden Circle (405.4 yards and 33.6 points per game) ... Oak Cliff Life has scored only 70 points all season and is coming off a 63-7 loss to Scurry-Rosser.
