Mildred senior Devin O’Sullivan and Blooming Grove junior Tyler Ellis had great feats from a pair of rock-solid feet.
O’Sullivan started all four seasons at placekicker for Mildred’s high-flying offense. In the next-to-last regular season game, he became the state’s all-time extra points king, nailing six in a win over Dallas Oak Cliff Life. He ended his career with 269, besting former Southlake Carroll kicker Cade Foster. O’Sullivan repeated as first-team All-Golden Circle kicker.
In the playoffs, Ellis booted the Lions into the second round of the playoffs. He kicked a 48-yard field goal with seven seconds left to lift Blooming Grove over Jacksboro, 38-35. It was Blooming Grove’s first playoff win since ... 1977.
Ellis, who also played quarterback, was named Co-Dick Gibbs Leadership Award winner on the All-Golden Circle football team. He was 6 of 6 on field goals.
Both Ellis and O’Sullivan were honorable mention all-state picks.
