WEATHERFORD — Windthorst and Dawson resumed Game 2 of their Region II-1A semifinal series Saturday morning in Brock, and after less than hour, the Trojans closed the books on the series with an 8-6 win.

The two teams met for Game 2 Friday at 5 p.m. in Weatherford, and after two hours of watching the rain pound the infield tarp and lightning flash intermittently, Dawson and Windthorst coaches said no more. The Trojans were leading through four innings, 7-6, and they had hoped to finish it Friday night, but later decided to go to Brock Saturday.

The Trojans added a run in the sixth to make it 8-6, then held on to end one of Dawson's best season's ever. The Bulldogs finished the year 20-9. They led by five runs in boths games, including leading 6-1 into the bottom of the seventh Thursday in Game 1.

Windthorst won Game 1, 7-6, Thursday night, scoring six times.

The Bulldogs  had built a 5-1 lead Friday through three innings, getting RBI hits from Trent Underwood, Jake Strother and Dalton Long in a three-run third, but just they did Thursday, when they scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh to stun the Bulldogs, the Trojans answered.

Windthorst scored six runs in the top of the fourth on five hits to take a 7-5 lead. The Bulldogs chased Windthorst starter Brent Hemmi by loading the bases with no outs in the bottom of fourth, but could only push a run across.

Dawson never took the field for the fifth. The umpires and coaches met in front of the mound with a Weatherford College official armed with a lightning meter, and decided to exit the field at 6:27 p.m. Soon afterward, both teams worked together to pull out the tarp as the rains begain.

Two hours later Windthorst coach Scott Belcher told the crowd they were moving the game.
