GC Track & Field Roundup: Frost, Kerens send relays to girls state meet

Corsicana — Frost’s girls took second place in the Region III Class 1A DII meet on Saturday and will send three relay teams and Maria Sauste to the state meet in Austin and the Kerens girls will send the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams to the Class 1A DI state meet as well as Breanna Baxter, who qualified in the high jump and long jump.

Kerens’ Jalon Moss qualified in the 400 in the boys state meet.

Dawson will send Courtney Warren, who is making her third consecutive trip to the Class 1A DI state meet in the 300 hurdles and Seth Lachey, who qualified in the boys 3,200 run.

All of these athletes qualified by finishing first or second on Saturday in their region meets.

Kerens’ Marqueshia Kelly, Breanna Baxter, Emmanuella Armant, Kiara Lindsey ran on both the 4x200 relay team that took first in the region with a time of 1:47.67 and the 4x100 relay team that took second. Baxter won the high jump at 5-2 and was second in the triple jump and returns to Austin after qualifying last year.

Frost’s 4 x200 team of Hillaree Schwartz, Jae Moore, Kennah Kennedy, and Diana Rios took first and the 4x100 relay team of  Kennedy, Schwartz, Kaycee Bowling, and  Rios and the 4x400 team of  Schwartz, Moore, Kennedy, and  Rios both took second. Sauste took second in the 3,200 run.
