Navarro Baseball: Bulldogs lose Region XIV opener to Blinn, 7-2

Corsicana — Navarro’s Bulldogs ran into trouble early on Saturday and fell to Blinn, 7-2, in their opening game of the Region XIV Tournament in Lufkin, where they will play in the loser’s bracket at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday against the loser of the Alvin-Angelina game.

    The Bulldogs are now in a win or go home situation after falling behind early and losing to Blinn.

    Navarro ace J.D. Hammer lasted just three innings and gave up two home runs in Blinn’s three-run second inning. Stepen Stuart hit a two-run shot and Reed Robinson hit a solo homer in the second inning to give Blinn a 3-0 lead. Blinn added solo runs in the fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth innings as Navarro couldn’t stop the bleeding.

    Blinn’s Robbie Dickey held Navarro to just one run on two hits over 6 2/3 innings while striking out eight to get the win. The Bulldogs had just three hits during the game.

    Navarro scored on Mason Hesse’s RBI single in the seventh to close to 6-1 and Jovan Hernandez drove in a run in the eighth with an RBI groundout. Grayson Lewis and Sam McDonnell picked up Navarro’s other two hits.

    Jorge Flores relieved Hammer and gave up four runs on six hits while walking two and striking out two.
