CHINA SPRING — The Bosqueville Lady Bulldogs broke open a tight ballgame with three unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on the way to a 10-4 win over the Hubbard Lady Jaguars in Game 1 of a Region II, 1A Final best-of-3 matchup on Friday at China Spring High School.
The Lady Dogs scored a run in the fifth inning before tacking on five more in their half of the sixth to pull away from Hubbard.
Hubbard senior ace Olivia Curtis (23-4-1) had a tough outing as she surrendered nine runs on 10 hits and four walks while fanning three. The Hubbard defense had a rough night as well as the Lady Jags committed six errors leading to five unearned runs.
For Bosqueville, sophomore Lizzie Donaldson gave up just four runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks while ringing up 10 strikeouts on the evening. Donaldson stranded six Hubbard hitters on the basepaths.
Hubbard opened the game with two unearned runs in the top of the first inning as Nakaila Banks and Kate Saucke both reached on Bosqueville errors. Cleanup hitter Amy Anz then drilled a one out triple to the fence up the right field alley to plate Banks and Saucke giving the Lady Jags a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first, the Lady Bulldogs responded with an unearned run of their own as two Hubbard errors led to Bosqueville’s first run.
