Southwest Junior College Football Conference champion Navarro will face a familiar foe when it faces Georgia Military in the Dec. 1 C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl in Copperas Cove.
The fifth-ranked Bulldogs (9-2) will play 20th-ranked Georgia Military (7-3) for the 12th straight season, including twice in bowl games. Navarro defeated GMC 24-21 in the 2007 Pilgrim’s Pride Bowl when current Bulldog Head Coach Brian Mayper was an assistant on Ray Woodard’s staff.
Navarro has won the last eight straight meetings with Georgia Military, dating back to 2004. Navarro won last year’s meeting 29-18 on the road. Navarro leads the all-time series 10-4.
While Navarro faces a team 15 spots lower in the NJCAA poll, regular-season SWJCFC co-champions Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and Kilgore will take on much more difficult competition in their bowl games.
Eleventh-ranked Kilgore (8-2), which Navarro defeated 42-14 in the SWJCFC semifinals, faces No. 13 Northwest Mississippi (7-2) in the first Brazos Valley Bowl in College Station. NEO (9-2), ranked ninth, takes on No. 15 College of DuPage (8-2) in the Citizens Bank Bowl in Pittsburg, Kan. Navarro defeated NEO 62-24 in the SWJCFC title game.
