CHS Golf: Tigers send two to regional golf tournaments

Corsicana — Corsicana High's golf teams have had a breakthrough season under new coach Robert August, and two Tigers qualified for the Class 4A regional golf tournaments next month.

Brody Phillips, a freshman, earned a berth in the boys Class 4A Regional Tournament, which will be played April 14-15 at Waterchase in Fort Worth.

Madi Hodge qualified for the Class 4A girls Regional Tournament, which will be held April 16 and 17 at Tierra Verde in Arlington.

The top two teams in the District 16-4A Tournament qualified for the regionals, and the top two individuals who are not members of the top two teams also earn a berth at the regional tournament.

Corsicana’s boys and girls teams were both in the hunt for second place and a team berth to the regionals, before finishing third in the district tournament.

The boys team, which was down by 24 strokes after the first round, stormed back to close to within four strokes of second place before taking the third spot.

The boys team consists of Phillips, Brady Watson, Matt Shelton, Luke Johnson and Sam Hooser.

The girls team is made up of Hodge, Kristen Moody, Ally Watson and Mariana Haddenham.
