Rice’s boys basketball team stayed unbeaten Tuesday with a 63-57 win over Cayuga, and the Bulldogs went to the Thanksgiving break with a 4-0 record.
Rice never trailed and took a 49-36 lead into the fourth quarter.
Sim Nezar led the Bulldogs with 21 points, and Raven Huffman dropped in 16 while Colin Haston added 13 for Rice. Austin Peppers (6), Daniel Arteaga (4) and Nik Costlow (3) all scored for Rice.
Hubbard 58, Meridian 49
The Hubbard boys basketball team opened its season just a few days after its football season ended, and despite having only four days between the end of football and the tipoff of basketball season, the Jags won their second game of the year, beating Meridian 58-49 on Tuesday night.
D’Warren Simons, lead the way with 36 points and Jordan Johnson scored 10 for Hubbard.
Franklin 64, Kerens 56
The Kerens LadyCats, ranked No. 3 in the state, lost a tough game on the road to Franklin as they fell behind 22-10 early and never made up ground. Taylor Ames led Kerens with a 21-point night and Breanna Baxter (7), Cambree Betts (6), Kiara Lindsey (6) Tinesha Tolliver (5), Marqueshia Kelly (4), Emmanuella Armant (4) and Aaliyah Bivins (3) scored for Kerens.
Rice 53, Eustace 28
The Rice Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-5 with the win as Briana Weaver (16), Sadie Gent (12) and Branisha Connor) all scored in double figures to lead the way Tuesday along with Ashton Metcalf (8) and Olivia Zeller.
